Memories, Dreams, and Archetypes
The ocean and the desert are two sides of the same coin. This recent series began by chance after returning from a month in New Mexico where my imagination was freed from the distraction of technology and noise, with only the howling of wolves and the flap of a hawk's wings to break the crisp silence. When I returned to my studio in Connecticut., I did not begin painting in my usual fashion; I began to translate my thoughts and feelings into something beyond oil paint, not exactly an image, but rather using words and symbols. It started one night with a bottle of ink, a dip pen, and a scroll of heavy paper. I began, quite unconsciously, to begin writing late into the night and haven't stopped since.
